Sweet! I have my eye on the same rifle. It is $238 here at my WM. I like it better than the carbine. I also want a Leupold Rifleman 2x7 scope to put on it. Congrats! :applause_

Same price here. I'm starting to love 22lr. It's about the only thing I can afford to shoot anymore.

I used to go to the range and fire 150 rounds of 45 acp and 100 rounds of 223. Those days are gone forever.

Re: Picked up the Walmart 10/22 stainless 22" barrel

Must fixes:
1- bolt release
2- mag released
3- recoil buffer

Buy the Volquartsen release and bell carlsen mag release and for recoil buffer, buffer technologies makes a great one that won't break the bank. All told it's about 25 dollars from midway if you have dealer pricing access. Well worth it and do it all at once while you are in there.

You can mod your own bolt release, but I say screw that, buy the volk one for 9 bucks and have it 100%.. trying to dremel that tiny hump out then sand/file it smooth would be a real pain. Not worth it IMO.

I have had one for about 2 years and really like it. I topped mine with a Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x32 in a black matte finish. Been happy with the combo.

One thing about the rifle. Make sure the front screw that holds the fore-end tight to the barrel is tight. Mine was loosening up everytime I shot it until some BLUE loctite took care of it. CCI mini mags shoot real nice through mine.

I had a 10/22 Ruger many years back before they were banned in Australia.

I found the rifle as reliable as ever and very robust, great buy.

This is true... I sold mine because it was going to cost more than the carbine just to make it as accurate as my Winchester bolt action rifle. Also, the rotary mag can bind on occasion.

Thanks for all of the input. I hope to take it to the range on Saturday. I ordered some more ruger factory mags for it and my new 22/45 from Midway. I will take a look at all of the modification suggestions!

Bump.

Hey Scott how did the Ruger turn out once they sent it back to you?

I am beginning to get very annoyed by mine. The rail that came with it is junk, I have a new one on the way. Also the damn stock keeps coming lose from the barrel. I don't want to use anything on it to keep it from happening but it doesn't look like I have any other choice. Also the mag that came with it likes to cause jams and I just threw it out.

I'm happy with the 10/22. Bought a second one for spare parts. Sighted them in at 50 yards with cheap 4x scopes and performed quite well.

I agree with the above except for the DIY. If you have a dremel and a vise it is worth your time, otherwise pay for one. It is not a "real pain". It is dead simple and rather satisfying IMO.

OP may consider the bolt hold-open mod to stay compliant with many ranges requirements.

Sweet guns Scott! I really dig those stocks. I just have the carbine stainless model.

The mods I did to mine were WeaponKraft recoil buffer, Volquartsen extractor, and Volquartsen "Extended bolt handle and recoil rod assembly."

The bolt rod and recoil buffers are my top two suggestions, extended mag release and bolt release would be nice, but not totally necessary. Then there's also trigger work which I haven't got into but'd be nice to have.

I was going to buy a Boyd Blaster stock in sky blue, with a hellical fluted stainless barrel. Mostly for looks, though the bull barrel would help accuracy.

But now I think if I do anything 10/22 related, I think I'll just buy one of those 10/22 Chargers, they look awesome.

The stock is the textured walnut stock found on the sporter deluxe model. I have a sporter deluxe but with a blue barrel. I wanted the stainless barrel but the shop didn't have one in and I wanted a gun right then so I capitulated.
My biggest gripe with the gun is the paint on the inside of the receiver.

Anybody got a line on some snazzy straps that won't clash with this stock?

Are those Simmons 22MAG 4x32 scopes? If so, that is my favorite rimfire scope.

The Simmons are about the same price. I see they are $39.99 on Midway, but I've seen them locally (Big 5 Sports) for $35.

Either way, 4x32 is the perfect resolution for rimfire. Most are paralax free at 50 yards and they are bright and offer a great amount of clarity at 4x.

I've got the same Ruger .22 and with a Simmons .22 Mag 3-9 x 32 (about $50). With the cost of ammo, these are the only way to on economy mode.

Agreed. At the start of the year I had no .22lr guns, and no 22lr ammo. Now I have two 22lr pistols, and two 22lr rifles and about 7,000 rounds stored so far. They are fun.
:D

I highly recommend the 10/22s ..... two rifles and 10,000 rounds for starters.

I have a 40mm Red Dot on one and a 3x9 variable on the other.

The 40mm is for jumping rabbits, the 3x9 is for squirrels and turkeys.

I have a 10/22 as well with the stock 10 round clip and 2 Tactical Innovations 25 Rnd Steel Lip Mag. It's the only thing I can still afford to shoot for fun.

Mag ProMag Ruger 10/22 50 Round Drum (a must if you go full auto with a 10/22 BMF Activator 22 Rifle Crank Fire).

Don't worry, its legal (for now).

The walmarts around here do not sell them anymore.

My local gun guy sold his store. Agent orange got him from his time in Asia.

I love that little rifle. I was thinking of keeping one or two in the trunk of the cars with 500 or so rounds.

I guess I will have to go shopping with the phone to see if anyone close even sells them.
